In current parlance it is an abbreviation of Wives and Girlfriends. It came into use when the partners of our National football team were involved in a tournament and the girls did their own thing while the bots were training. The group of these ladies was termed a WAG. It is also the movement of a dog's tail when it is pleased.

A wag is short for Scallywag, but the media pinched it and used it for the footballers wives and girlfriends. You would think they could come up with something more original.

In a business environment, it's an estimate that's based on just a seat-of-the-pants gut feel kind of thing. WAG = Wild A** Guess.
