it's not ok for anybody else to lie, but why has it become almost expected for every politician to lie.

i understand there's nothing we can really do about it, but there should be some sort of consequence for politicians who lie to get elected then never put into action what they propose. it's misleading and shouldn't be tolerated.

if a sales person cannot lie in an advertisement, why can a politician lie in a campaign that will more likely affect us in more ways, and probably more severely?

One would think an honest and sincere politician would win everyone over and win an election. Why doesn't that ever happen.

You know what else is annoying? Not only do they lie, but when they are being interviewed and asked a question, they never actually answer the question asked. They say whatever canned speech answer they have memorized that is kind of similar to the question and is what they want to preach. No one else can get away with answering questions like that, that is SO annoying.

Lying has become a way of life for most people, not only politicians. Parents lie so children lie.

Everyone lies. Anyone who says they don't is a liar. :)

Why do we tolerate politicins misleading us? Because we always hope that "this time" will be different and the politicians will actually do what they say they will. It rarely happens. _Or_ they do just enough to fulfill their promise yet not enough to actually make a difference. It's a game.

Politicians at the higher levels don't make it to where they are by being nice and always following "the rules". They can't, its impossible. There is such a high level of corruption that it is impossible to avoid it.

The person whoever said that nice people finish last knew what they were talking about when it comes to politics.

It takes involved concerned citizens to watch them and vote them out etc. A good precentage of citizens must be educated so they can help the others to decipher the lies otherwise TV propaganda will control the masses in their political leanings and opinions. If people take their democracy for granted it can be taken away by the clever wealthy and greedy ones.
We have given them too much rope and they ran with it Now its a huge empireof them all doing it and even an honest one cannot get very far without beomcing part of the mafia like system.
Ralph Nader's "The Good Fight" a good resource about citizen involvement
FCNL.org is a good (sponsored by the friends) website allowing you to write to your rep's and become politically active

Half of the population tolerates lying politicians because... in the Democrat party, lying is a resume enhancement.

Politicans throughout histroy have lied to the people.

When they lie enough, we tend to vote them out of office. So the best way to show our disdain is at the ballot box.

Sheer stupidity and being incapable of independent thought. For instance, clinton was held in contempt of court for lying under oath, and disbarred for unethical legal practices. There are still millions of mindless sheep who think it was a decent person.

its the only way they know how to live. other than that, they are allowed to lie since people are too gullible enough to believe in them thus giving them the right to lie....

Because we're foolish enough to accept it when they lie to our opponents, and think they'll be honest with us.
