I much prefer it when people recognise me as an individual, and use my name.

If there has to be a label: lesbian or gay.

What is the point of your coy euphemism? I enjoy the company of women regardless of my or their sexuality.

"Lesbian", because "woman who prefers the company of other women" is way too vague and could mean anything from being a lesbian to having more female friends than male friends. The only reason to use a euphemism like that is if homosexuality is a topic so taboo in your society that you can't come out and talk about it directly.

Besides, despite the fact that I date women, in general I prefer the company of men--I have more in common with some of my male friends than with a lot of my female friends. Just not, you know, the *intimate* company.

For me, "a woman who prefers the company of other women" because, what Liz M said, but the opposite. Ordinary company, women; intimate company, men.

... or maybe you'd like to be called "lesbian who prefers to be called 'a women who prefers the company of other women' "

Too bad if you don't like the word lesbian. If you are lesbian, then you are a lesbian.
We're not inventing different tags for the same people who have a need to express their own uniqueness.

You don't assign the label yourself, it's what other people call you.

I prefer lesbian, thanks for asking! Your second choice is too wordy, lol. If a guy called me a dyke I'd be offended, but if a lesbian called me a dyke, it'd be okay.

Oh for Christ sake, why does everyone need a politically correct name anyway? Call me a dyke for all I care! Why are we discussing my sexual orientation anyway? Everyone already knows I love *****!
