Yes, a few ideas.
1. I would strongly recommend buying a guide book such as the Lonely Planet Barcelone book. It is the best I have found. I live in Barcelona now and checkign the book it is the most accurate and up to date.
2. You should be okay without Spanish although it definitely helps. Just try and learn some basics, i.e. to say a few numbers, please, thank you etc etc. Just the basics. It'll help.
3. Maybe check http://www.barcelona-culture.com/budget-flights.htm if you want to try and save money flyign budget between Valencia and Barcelona.
4. Visit the Sagrada Familia. It's great.

If you don't speak Spanish, learn to do so. Other than that just enjoy it as it is wonderful. I had the opportunity to go to Spain years ago and I am so happy that I went, it was beautiful. Bring plenty of money with you to spend. You will be able to bargain on many of the prices of things that you are shopping for.
Enjoy it as I know that you will have a wonderful time there. It was so beautiful, a trip of a life time. Enjoy the beautiful architecture, pretty awesome to say the least. I visited Granada and few places around there. Most of the names I can not even remember any more but I will never forget all that I saw during the three weeks I was there. It has been over 30 years ago. Oh yes, and I saw the rock of Gibraltar, wow!
Enjoy it, I wish I was going too!

Nerja on the Costa Del Sol that's one hour east of Malaga airport. that's a appealing Spanish city via the sea. the encircling section is magnificent. The beaches are cove like and secure. I stay on the brink of Nerja and that i admire the placement.
