XP shows that this cad has 640MB of video memory (in dxdiag utility), which is correct. But in Vista, it shows that the total is around 1400MB, with around 700MB shared from system. Which one is right? Does my graphic card shares memory with RAM? Or the card is designed in a way that it will share in Vista but not in XP? If this is the case, then will I get better gaming performance in Vista?

Ok, Vista reports graphics memory different than XP does.

I have provided two links on the subject.

Vista uses surplus RAM in addition to the memory on your
GPU. If you add more memory (RAM) Vista will use what it can for graphics while not harming performance of your PC. I use Ultimate and about 41% of my memory is used even though I have a good dedicated Video card.

Mhhh...quite a good question , cuz i use the built in video card of my intelGZ series MotherBoard, but on xp it shows 128Mb (Which should be the correct assumption) but on vista it shows 358Mb in Dxdiag.....well im not sure wether vista uses more system memory as a buffer since ive got 1.5Gb of it !! but my aero performance is awsome !!!

I seriously doubt you will notice any difference.

It is attempting to share system ram with the video application, but depending on how much ram you have on your mobo, it will get eaten up pretty quick by the application using the video card (game in this case).

Video cards have their own ram. You cannot use integrated video AND video cards at the same time. You may have to turn off the integrated chip in the bios. beofre you make any changes I would contact your video card maker. If you make a poor change in your bios. You make not see anything on your screen at all. You would then have to reset your jumpers....huge pain
