I clean my clothes very well, but I always seem to have this sour odor in my closet, do you think its one dirty shirt that is occupying my closet or is there another alternative, what sprays should i use

Better idea - Someone else mentioned charcoal. I have the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. It works so much better than baking soda and all those sprays and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. Just place some of them in closet. - only a couple dollars each. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Someone else even said available in England. Definitely worth trying

First of all it's a good idea to remove all the clothes from the closet and wash them to make sure they're clean. While they're washing, check to see if the smell is still there. If it is, check that there is no food, smelly shoes or dead rodents around to cause the smell. For a nicer smelling closet get a small orange and stick lots of cloves into the skin and then place it on a string or in a net bag hanging in the closet.

Do not put any worn clothes into the closet. Any clothes that have been worn, even if only for an hour, should be washed before being re-introduced to the closet.

I would empty the closet and spray and wipe around as much of the surfaces as possible with vinegar. That will freshen and kill off some germs. There may be moisture in the walls or carpet. Then try an open container of baking soda at the back, this will attract and catch moisture and soak up any lingering smells. Good luck, a nasty smell with no obvious cause is a pain in the neck.

Yes you could have a dirty shirt or dirty pants or something in there that is causing the odor, you did not specify what type of odor it is, but I will try to remedy this problem for you with my tried and trusty tips, you can put a open container of Baking soda mixed with Kitty Litter, leave this for about one month then change this mixture and leave it there up to four months and if the odor is still remaining then you know what the problem is but I would suggest you wash your clothes you wear most often even if they have been washed re wash with one cup of White Vinegar to the rinse water, this is for a medium to large load, small load you can reduce this amount to half, if the odor suddenly disappears then this is what was causing that foul odor, you can do this from time to time when washing your laundry, it won't hurt your clothes and will leave them clean and odor free and soft and you won't need fabric softner with this treatment. Good Luck !

Do you have pets? A pet could have had an accident in there. Check the carpets etc and see if they needed to be cleaned. Maybe trying burning a candle in there and see if it's just the air not circulating.

Make sure you get all the dirty laundry etc out and wash them throughly. Also if you have old smelly shoes.. They'll make it smell in there as well. Put those outside..

Finally put a thing of baking soda in there.. It takes bad odors out of the air!
