Ohmigod NO!
You were wearing an apron to protect a good dress. That's all. Its a practical and common-sensical thing to do.
I don't much care for people who single-mindedly focus on their careers.....life is so much bigger than just a job. I think its great that you decided to cook, because its always a good thing to be multifaceted, coz you challenge different areas of your brain and just become more capable.
Also think about one thing, is this woman working? It could be that she envies you for having a great job and being able to take time out to prepare a great meal. Maybe the comment just stemmed out of jealousy, in which case you should take it as a compliment.
I hope you don't give up on expanding your interests and being sensible about them. Good luck to you.

This was a spiteful woman, and I'd think nothing of her comment. I think she saw an apron on a "career woman", and she struck at you because of out of jealousy. A man who works should be able to lift up the barbeque and host a backyard party.... so a woman (like you) who works should have no problem hosting a dinner party once in a while either.
An apron is a piece of clothing. It does not have the magical powers to unravel years of feminism and hard work and education....etc. You are a strong and wonderful woman. The only mistake you made was inviting that trifling witch to your house in the first place. ;)

Its a sign that you are practical. In all honesty though, Hostess aprons are fairly retro, especially the pretty ones. I really haven't seen those since my own mother wore them and I'm 60. If you had worn a canvas full apron with Kiss the Cook on it, I wonder if they had thought it was your husband at the barbecue?
If you are concerned about women's status in society then you should be aware that its not the apron that makes the woman, its the brain, and for that matter theres nothing wrong with women who cook.
I'd hate to see us become one-dimensional beings just to make a few purists happy.

Aprons are used to protect your clothing, nothing more. Your co-workers wife is a douche bag who probably doesnt know how to cook and would rather stuff her kids faces with microwaved food. Wearing an apron is a sign of a smart person who doesnt want grease stains in their clothing.

You're a career woman and a smart woman. Wearing that apron probably saved you a bundle on dry cleaning bills. The other wife sounds a bit jealous.

No, never. That lady grow to be only being stupid and cocky. You have been donning an apron to guard your cocktail gown, and you have been cooking for the relaxing/excitement of it. do no longer hassle approximately it. whether you're a occupation lady, there is not any longer something incorrect with helping out around the abode each and every sometimes (as maximum women wish their husbands could do).

The wife of your associate is bitter. That is all. She was 'trying' to steal your pride because she has none of her own. Next time you see her, call her on it. Ask her to elaborate. I bet you she can't...and won't.
For added punch, offer her your old apron...tell her you know how much it means to her while letting her know you are happy to gift it to her as you bought yourself a 'chef' apron instead - being that a chefs apron is more in keeping with your culinary talents/style. Oh yes, that should settle things just fine.

Um...no, not at all. Methinks I detect a jealous wife - if you also happen to be quite good looking then this is almost definitely the case.
Depends though, did your apron say 'I heart my husband" on it....?
You get in there girl and wear whatever you damn well please! Lord knows you've probably worked hard enough for it. You're a credit to all of us. Thankyou! X

Wearing an apron does not automatically signify a change or rejection of your chosen role in life, even if other people misinterpret it as such.
Wearing a burqa on the other hand....
