Check your surrounding area for EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference - large screen TVs, Halogen lamps, microwaves, etc.) and also for sources of RI (Radio Interference - anything that operates on the 2.4 GHz range, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.) Try to move your wireless router away from those sources or possibly changing the channel you are using (especially if there are a large number of other wireless signals in the area). To change the channel go into the wireless configuration of your router and you should see a setting in there for channel, go away from 6 try either 1 or 11.

Hmm is it a d-link router by any chance because i had i problem like this with mine? (i changed router in the end - lag spike)

Check the manufactures website for any updates?

Go through the process of setting the router up again?

Check to see if any background internet applications are running.

Do a spyware and anti virus scan!!

Change channels (as above)
