Is silverware considered dishes or not?

Me & my roommate were arguing about that. I always was taught that it was dishes because when my mom always told me to WASH THE DISHES, she didn't say to wash the dishes AND THE SILVERWARE, she just said WASH THE DISHES, so I always thought silverware was part of dishes.

Nope. Not the same as "dishes".
But when you are told to wash the dishes, it's just understood that you have to wash the silverware and cups, too, right?
