If your female isn't full of eggs why are you putting them together in a 2.5 gallon tank??

To breed tiger barbs you will need a 10 gallon tank and tons of fine leafed plants and about 4-6 barbs will work far, far better than 2.

Give them a little more time and try to get a few more to work with.

2.5 is too small, no doubt the cramped conditions is bringing out the violence. they need a 10-15 gallon minimum as a breeding tank, heated and sponge filtered. make sure it's cycled before the fish are added, and keep it barebottomed as they are egg scatterers.
as soon as the eggs are down they need to be removed back to their main tank otherwise the eggs will become lunch.

the thread i found below has more details.

barbs have special requirements and tend to be quite aggressive and when they are stressed out like they would be in such a small area they will act out VIOLENTLY.
