Before the Common Era, Before the Current Era, or Before the Christian Era. Date notation equivalent to BC (Before Christ). Common Era (CE), Current Era, or Christian Era is the equivalent alternative to AD.

BCE means Before Current Era (with our current calendar)

1500 BCE would be 3507 years ago.

Before Common/Current Era. It eliminates the references to Jesus when setting dates. So it is the same as BC. And AD is replaced with CE - Common/Current Era.

BCE = Before the Common Era
CE = Common Era

These mean exactly the same thing as BC and AD but they're politically correct as they don't mention Christ as in BC or Lord as in AD Anno Domini. We mustn't offend the heathen.

Before the Christian Era. I guess this is the new "politically correct" change from BC, which meant Before Christ.
