My furnace is making a horrible loud noise (kind of a growling noise) throughout the entire house. It is not keeping the house as warm as it should (about 67 degrees even though the thermostat is set to 72). Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? Could it be the blower?

My furnace is a Lennox G24M. The noise problem has suddenly stopped. I just woke up this morning and the house is at 58 degrees. It seems that air is now blowing from the furnace without noise but it is only cold air. I am going to see what I can do with it, but I think that I'll probably need to get a professional in to look at it. Any other suggestions on what it could be? Something simple?

If its a York, its the heat exchanger vibrating. When only the fan is running if it isnt making the same sound then it is related to the inducer or heat exchanger. We have had a lot of problems with with noise complaints from the York Stellar gas furnaces. There is nothing you can do to fix that problem. If the fan only makes the same noise then it may be the bearings in the blower motor wearing out. If the fan continues to run but no heat is coming out when the thermostat is set for heat then the limit may be opening. If the fan stops during the heat cycle the motor may be opening on a thermal limit. You typically smell burnt dust off the heat exchanger when this happens. There are a variety of things that could be happening. Give me more info and I'll trouble shoot for you. Check it out and let me know!

PS change your filter.

There are at least 3 blowers in your furnace, two of which are exhause and combustion blowers , any one of these can make a growling noise.
