Oh good, ethics versus money! You don't say just how many greenbacks are in the briefcase. And you know they are 100s because no dye-pack burst open when you looked inside. Technically you should report a lost item--depending on where you found it--witihout being specific about what it is. Or put a tiny classified ad in the paper to cover yourself. Chances are that this money did not appear for leagel reasons. But I do have to say that while I have always returned lost wallets and cell phones I've found in cabs or buses, this would be a toughie. How bout you report the briefcase but not the money, heh heh. I would probably hold on to the money, send myself a certified, postmarked letter stating my intention to come forward if I see an article about the lost money, and then......oh who am I kidding, I'd keep it if there was no identification or hint of one from the place where you found it. My conscience would bother me and I'd probably, with my luck, get locusts and plague fall on me. Either that, or area security cameras would have captured my find and some bad dudes be tracking me down!

Of course you should. Even though it doesnt have any contact number, maybe you could give it to orphanages or charity. One good thing leads to another. How would you feel if you lost a briefcase full of money??

Well who are you going to return it to if there is no contact details on it? I say keep it, as it most likely belongs to a drug dealer.

You can if you want? count the money again and think about the drug deal you prevented. Consider it a gift and keep it.
