Pilferage means stealing things from the organisation.
Material pilferage is one of the problems of many manufacturing companies face. If not controlled at all levels,
it may lead to losses to the organisation. That is why all
big companies employ security staff to curtail pilferage.
Even in the service industries like hotels and and distribution companies it is main cause of worry to the management. The employee or the person who steals from the company, small items may not be much benefitted by the value he get. But the organistion will loose, some time valuable items which is a loss to them and time to get replacement is also a loss. A calculator, or a small metal screw or a couple of dies may not be valuable to the stealing person. But the unit will be at a big loss for these small items in terms of money and time to replace.
