Please check from root, whether they are afraid of mathematics or indulgent to tv toons,or they don't have(unfortunately though) requsite grey cells activated required for excelling in mathematics.
If they are otherwise better with other sujects, then they must be good in mathematics too. It's sheer practice. If their base is already weak, start from lower class books and from the wee hour of morning. This technique is fullproof since it had helped me to the highest degree.
If you don't know mathematics, even the potato vendor might laugh at you. This is as simple as that.
Practice ,just after getting up in the morning, even without washing,if possible. No amount of tuition would help if they are afraid of it.
Have faith on them
Be with them
Let them feel they could do
If they are negligient, treat them as you think deem fit
There is no way out but practice
Have a nice day,everyday.

NOt everyone has to be good in math nor will they be. As long as they can pass and not fail, it is ok. Donlt worry if they are not the best in math or if they struggle. In the long run, it really doesn't matter. Since leaving school, there have been very few instances where i needed to use algebra, geometry or calculus in my everyday life. And the same is true for most people. If they can add, subtract, divide, multiply, work some with decimals, percent and fractions, they are ok. And if they know how to turn on the calculator, they are also ok. So don;t worry if your kids are not einstein's in math. You got by, and you probably also struggled in math.

They are weak in maths as their base of maths is weak or not developed. May be due to no proper guidance at primary level because of no proper teaching or they might have got teaching from two sources ie. at school and at home with different methods, confusing the children.
Now solve this problem give tuition from a teacher whose basic knowledge is proper.
They must be explained each and every step in maths why they are doing the particular step.
If you your self going to teach them first get basic clear. Do not confuse them if your basic is not clear.
Secondly you can not develop maths only by reading. It requires so much practise. Do not use any guide, First let them do them self. and use guide to write the steps properly.

The best way to become good at systematic problem solving as often seen in mathematics is simply to practice. Try to take around an hour every day or so solving problem sets with your kids. Watch how they solve the problems and discuss them after, correcting any possible sources of error or mistakes as you come across them. Just keep on going and your kids will be decent at math sooner or later.

The best way to syudy mathematics at this age is to practice the same problems which already solved in classroom and pay attention towards the regualrity of class. Instead of private tutions you yourself just keep watch on the progress. you will get fruitfull change. Practising helps to develop concepts.

i honestly say that private tutions wont savour any purpose. what i think is that both of the kids have enough grown up to practice as many problems as they can in maths. for that i will suggest that u do look upon giving exercises from first of all the course book( well it shud be finished first.), then when they have got enough grip over the formulaes, they can start practising from other reference books such as( R.D SHARMA'S MATHEMATICS FOR CLASS VIII/ IX) and ensure that they at leats finish doing all the important problems relevant to their sylabbus in the book.
it is only through constant practice in maths particularly ,that a person gains so much confidence that he feels every sum to be that of class 2 problem.

If they are weak in maths you can make them read the text book.If they read the text they can understand everything. And tell them to do sums in the middle from the text. Then they should be perfect with the formulas. And make them practice everyday 1 to 2 hours so that they will become perfect.

You may tutor your kids. Children would enjoy studying mathematics if their parent, either Mom or Dad, takes time to teach them. When I was younger, Mathematics was taught to us like how is it used in day-to-day situations. It's a great time to bond too as a family. However if both parents are working, the Mom would fare better as tutor. Because Moms are usually more patient and understanding.
