I am a bit confused as some of the shops specifically mention HD for Laptops and PC's. But, unfortunately, all the best deals are found on the internet!! So, would really appreciate your help here.Thanx mates!!

Yes. The main differences are 1) size, and 2) interface (connection.)

I have heard of people hacking laptop harddrives to work on PC's and vice versa... check my sources for details.

Laptop hard drives are much smaller and generally slower than a desktop hard drive, they are completely different.....
If your looking for something specific, update your comment to include your current hardware......Computer name and model number, which can be found on the bottom for laptops, and on the back for desktops......

For the same specifications they should be the same in most aspects, except for size and the interfaces. Hard disks for laptops are relatively more expensive and for the same price you will get HD's with slower speed compared to those from desktops.

laptop drives are 2.75 inches wide thinner

not really the hard drive ina laptop is just smaller in actual length and width
