Poor vision that can't be adequately corrected; poor hand-eye coordination; arthritis; substance abuse; chronic fatigue; bad back; inability to work well under pressure; inability to stand for long periods of time; nagging tendency to giggle uncontrollably everytime you see someone's naughty bits.

It's such a specialty and calling that it might be easier to consider what makes a good surgeon rather than what could prevent you from being one. Do you feel confident that people can trust you with their lives? Can you project that confidence?

Well, we could use some humor in this answer. Perhaps along w/ shaky hands the person had poor eyesight. Proper education would be major. Finally, a criminal record would probably keep a sergion from doing his job.
