1. ask a bunch of medical history stuff
2. ask when your last period was
3. maybe do an ultrasound to check gestation (you don't get to see the monitor, you're terminating the pregnancy so they try to not let you "connect" with the fetus)
4. schedule your procedure date/time
5. you'll receive information about what to do/expect on the date of the procedure (usually done as an out-patient visit)
This is YOUR decision!!! Don't let ANYONE put you down or convince you otherwise!!! It's YOUR CHOICE and RIGHT, that YOU have made, that YOU have to live with, NOT THEM!!!!! Good Luck!

I had an abortion when I was 20 - 7 years ago, from what I remember - my consultation went like this!
waiting room for ages and ages, got given a cup to give a sample in - had to give that back immediately and they tested it to make sure I really was pregnant. I took my boyfriend with me but they wouldn't let him in the first part with me because they asked me personal questions that a boyfriend may not need to hear!! they weren't bad personal questions though and to be honest it wouldn't have mattered if he was there! they asked last period dates and such like. I then had to sign some forms and get booked in for the abortion. I went back into the waiting room to be called to see the gynacologist - he gave me an internal which was possibly the most awful thing that I ever remember - the abortion was much less worrying than that - I am a bit funny about smears and stuff though so not suprising! he confirmed how far gone I was and that was it. I then waited one week until my abortion.
it was all quite simple and not scary at all
good luck with whatever you choose to do - remember that you can back out at anytime should you change your mind up until of course your under anasthetic!
Hope I helped

You will see a doctor/nurse who will check your blood pressure and take a blood sample - this is to check your blood type. If you are negative blood group they will give you an anti-D injection to stop you having problems carrying a baby full term in the future. You will see another doctor who will give you an internal examination to assess the stage of your pregnancy. You will probably also see a counsellor before any of the above. These people are well trained and sympathetic. The counsellor will explain everything and answer your questions. They will ask you questions to see you are SURE this is what you want and will explain that many people feel guilt years after. You may find this part upsetting but they prefer you to be upset BEFORE the procedure than after it, when its too late. Dont worry though, everyone who works at abortion clinics are trained to be helpful and friendly. You'll be fine and will hopefully feel hugely relieved when its all over.
Best of luck. P.S. I've never regretted having an abortion - it was the right thing for me to do at the time and if I was in that situation again I'd do the same thing x.

I am really sorry that you are making this decision- let me tell you what the abortion clinic will not tell you- besides taking the life of your child- there are many risks to you.
1- depending on how far along you are there are a few procedures- 1st trimester- suction aspiration or D& E is probably the most common- (this will be graphic)- the dr will forcibly open your cervix with coned shaped rods- then with the suction proc. he will use a suction that is 10 times the strength of a home vacuum cleaner- to remove all parts of the fetus- the dr cannot see what he is doing so he does everything by feel- in a D&E they scrape the walls of the uterus to excavate the fetus.
2- Dangers to you are many-
A- torn uterus. excessive bleeding, miscarriages later, sometimes not able to conceive. infections- and failed abortions which mean they did not complete the abortion and will have to do another procedure.
B- emotional risks can last a long time, if not life long- guilt, shame, you will remember every year that you had this abortion.
C- they will not tell you that your baby's heart is beating either-
Please before you make this life long decision- consider adoption you will remember giving life to your child. I know that this answer is not what you or others want to hear, but it is the truth- If you want to talk more, please email me-

Proably talk with you about having an abortion, take blood samples, check you possibly and do an ultrasound to see how far along you are.
Q | How long can I expect to be there?
A | Although the actual procedure itself lasts 5-10 minutes, you can expect to be at our center for 3-5 hours. There are medical forms to be completed, lab work and ultrasound to be done, video and educational materials to review as well as individual counseling sessions and recovery time. So there are a lot of "other" time-consuming parts of your visit here. We strive to give you the individual attention you deserve, but remember on busy days, there are many other women needing all these services too..

You are very brave to post that question on here there are so many morons who would right some insulting reply or some pro life activist who would try to make you feel bad. First of all they will give you an ultra sound to check you are pregnant and asess how many weeks pregnant you are. then they have you speak with a shrink about health issues and allergies if you have any. then depending on how this clinic your going to works they will arrange an appointment for your abortion or if theyve asked you to bring a night dress with you and sanitary towels they will take you straight in (mine did). the abortion itself depends on the stage of pregnancy i was six weeks so i had one called aspiration it took 2 mins maximum it is scary and embrassing but its over real quick there was no annaestheic and the only pain i felt was for about 30 secs which was the contractions. however that was me if your a little further into your pregnancy theres the vacuum procedure which requires a local annaesthetic. there are alot of sites on the internet although most are pro life so beware they are very biased and disturbing. i found marie stopes international website to be honest helpful and clear on what happens. I would suggest looking up this site so you can be fully imformed and have more understanding of your decisions. good luck and take care.

they will probably give you an internal to assess the age of the pregnancy, then will talk you through the options and the procedure, then book you in for the appointment. Also they may offer you conselling for after the procedure and I would consider this seriously if I was you, not because of what your doing as that is your choice and people shouldn't judge you on your disicions but just to help you get through the emotional aspect after.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that they are going to check to see how far along you are and give you a quick physical exam. I would also hope that they talk with you about the emotional side of things and make sure that this is really what you want to do. Most women who have had an abortion will tell you that it is more than just a physical procedure and there are emotional side-effects as well as physical ones. Please think this through and be absolutely sure that this is what you want.

It's hard to say without knowing what procedure - on the 1st day i went in, they took blood and did an internal and discussed what would happen.
This is a terrible thing for you to have to go through, will be thinking about you.
Take care of yourself and don't accept too many demands for the next few weeks.
God Bless. XXX.

They will tell you what to expect and take blood samples to find out your blood type. They will also do a scan to find out how far along you are and they decide whether or not to procede with the termination and what type to do.
Good luck im really sorry that you are in this predicament and I hope that people give you helpful advise and dont just judge you.
