Mostly I would like to know if the ms word commands are the same in each or is ms word simplified in basic? Thanks.

Yes they are the same product, but they come with different applications. Office Basic only has Word, Excel and Outlook. Professional comes with all these, plus PowerPoint, Publisher and Access. But otherwise, the versions of Word, Excel and Outlook are exactly the same thing.
