Matter is a substance that occupies space and hass a mass. In another terms, it may be in 4 states, solid, liquid, gas & Plasma. (Plasma is created in temperatures more than gaseous state. When the temperature is too hot, the electrons are forced to tear). Matter can be destroyed till it reaches the smallest indivisible part called Atom which is indestructible.
Each and everything in earth is matter. Even air.

Nothing, whats a matter with you ? :-)
Just joking. Matter refers to objects that take up space and have mass. Objects without mass and volume, such as photons and thoughts, are not "matter".
