Every country is always developing. It's just how far along you are. Only the complacent believe their country has arrived at the top, and if those people become the majority, they can be partly right-- that their country has become as good as it's ever going to get. That's when countries begin to fail.

As for India, I've not been there and only see TV images and magazine articles and movies like "Gandhi" which obviously is outdated because it ends in (1947? the year he was killed).

From what I hear and read (and I am a religious person myself), it seems to me that religion and religious differences may still be too influential in government and daily life. I could be wrong.

If you look India as per the western definition of development (which is based solely on economic values) you would get India as a 'developing' country. But if you look it from the points of values, culture and heritage, then definitely, India is one of the most developed nations in the world.

Although I am not an Indian and in many ways, our nation is harmed by India, even after that, if I speak neutrally with clear reasoning, I would say that India is a developed country in every way if it is not calculated just on the financial ground.

In one word it is because we could not make even so called education free from licence raj.Even presently it is easy to start a wine factory but very difficult to start a school.Secondly we look to west to ape. Thirdly we are still divided by cast & religion. We should also understand that the present nationality divide is damaging us and our neighbours serving the purpose of the ruling elite of these nations & some rich nations.Language based states if can not be changed at least can be diluted by making more states with same languages.Numbers ofTecnical & medical training institutes should be increased.Big leaps should be thought to improve energy consumption & distribution situation.

Why do you need to give too much damn about it? As long as people necessities are being served by the goverment, it doesn't really matter. Some third world countries are too shallow minded on putting too much effort on getting that "previllege" status and in the end forget to actually taking care of their own citizen.

Because there are still far too many people living below the poverty line for it to be called a developed country.

The problems that need fixing before it moves up?
