When I'm trying to make a text box in Microsoft Word (one of the more recent versions), it makes a big ugly empty box that says "create your drawing here" in it , completely screwing up my layout. I then proceed to create the text box outside that drawing box, and this works fine. When I click 'create text box', what I want to happen is for Word to simply allow me to create a text box where I want it, without first creating this extra, useless, time-consuming box of its own. How do I stop this from happening?

You can disable the drawing canvas by going to Tools>Options. Select the General Tab and Uncheck "Automatically Create Drawing Canvas" (toward bottom above measurement units in 2003). After that is done, you will simply get the text box, and not the drawing canvas.

When you go into word you go to insert, text box. Then after doing that, the ugly box comes up. You proceed and click outside of the box. You draw with your cursor the size of the box. Then you type your information such as your name and then it should have 8 little dots on each side of the text box click on the line connecting all the dots and drag the box to where you want it. If that's not what you're asking about, I'm sorry I wasn't much help. But, the ugly create drawing will always come up. (it's part of microsoft.)

Drag the small text box in the big box outside then delete the big box. How to prevent it from appearing? I don't know how, but I just delete it after dragging the small text box out.
