Question about writing a review?

Question

My assignment is to write a comparative book review, which I've done. But she asked us to include the publication year of the books. How should I include it so that it doesn't seem awkward. Just saying: It was published in 1997, seems... so awkward.

Could I say [name of book] (year of publication) e.g. Garth Nix's "Shade's Children" (1997) is set...

Any help would be appreciated.

That is how I would do it. I was the Book's Editor for a local paper. I would start out the first paragraph with the title of the book, the author, and the publication month and year when I started the review. It's the best way to go about it and it's easier for the reader of the review to get the information if they decide they want to read the book. Incidentally, EXCELLENT choice in authors. I love Garth Nix!!! He is an excellent writer and keeps the reader completely engrossed!! Good luck!!

You need to look up MLA (Modern Language Association) formatting, which is considered the authority for scholastic papers. I believe putting the year in parentheses when you aren't actually creating a bibliography and/or footnotes is correct.
