use a removable drive.
such as a THUMBDRIVE or a CD-R
if you have a thumbdrive, plug it into the desktop PC,
transfer the files on to it,
plug it out
plug it in the laptop
save the files onto the laptop.
if you have the empty CD,
write all the files you need into the CD,
then put in on the laptop
and save it onto the laptop.
you can get these CD-Rs at IT shops or a really cheap price
and they can hold data up to 700MB.
or more, for some CDs

The method for connecting two computers is via their USB (Universal Serial Bus) ports. If you have two machines running USB compliant versions of Windows (Win 95 OSR2 or later), you can use USB. With no network card to install, this is a simple way to hook up two computers in the same room or quickly connect a laptop to a desktop.
From what that says it sounds like connecting via USB direct connect shouldnt be a problem, so what you should have to do is connect the desktop and laptop via the USB cable, then go into the Network Wizard and setup the connection as Direct Connect.
