I live in Southwestern Ohio and would like to move out. I intend to move to somewhere near Dayton. My father says that I have to make at least $600 per week, but that doesn't sound quite right to me. I have to take my cat with me, but my car insurance is very low. My cell phone bill is rather cheap, but I would like to have cable or DSL internet. I don't have any expensive habits or hobbies or any outstanding debt.

Do some research. Look at apartments and get a monthly payment amount. Total all your expenses; gas, light, phone, food, entertainment, clothes, etc. Usually you need to make 3 to 4 times your rent. If you are just starting out a minimum of 2 1/2 times your rent usually.

First find a roommate that likes your cat. then split the rent right down the middle. I live with my fiance and I pay the rent the car lease the insurance the phone and cable and pay for the gas and food and I also smoke a pack a day. I make $7 an hour and work 40 ish hours a week. I also have two boys and kids cost alot to clothe and feed and entertain. If you get rid of your DSL and just go to 3 MiG cable you'll save money right there. If you get a car make sure it is a 4 door not sporty and you will save on insurance Get the cheapest phone plan you can live with and don't go over your limits. If you find yourself falling behind confess to your parents and ask them for help. They will help you get back on the right track. Live cheap for the first couple of months on your own to make sure that this won't happen and save save save. Don't splurge on everything or you will have bad credit and you'll never be able to get a loan from a bank w/o your parents backing you I am 26 and still need my dad's signature because I never was good with money and bills

my brother lived in sydney, ohio and rent did not seem that expensive out there. i'd say rent would be about 400 a month with a roommate, but make sure its someone you like. another 100 or so for utilities which would make 500. then is the expenses such as food which should set aside about 250-300 a month, and misc. items to put in.
roughly id say you're looking at about 800-1000 a month in your area.
then you have car insurance, cell phone, gas, etc. So your dad was pretty close I would want to make atleast 500 a week in your area to move out on my own.

You have to consider several options.. First, are your parents willing to help financially in any way with your new apt? If not then you have to look for what you can afford.. say you have a job that makes 500 a week after taxes thats 2K a month.. this is a high estimate of what people make a month normally but in reality he is right.. so with 2k a month rent in most places is hmm, maybe 550-650 for a 1-2 bedroom apt. so we will take the higher of the 2 and say 650. a month.
650.00 rent
car payment??
Water/sewer/garbage/ usually included in a rent
phone service
cable/
not to mention security deposits and anything else.. food, gas for your car, ins...
Just to give you an idea my rent is 675.
675.00 rent
W/S included
14.00 garbage
189.00 car payment
100.00 ins
69.00 cell phone
87.00 qwest bundle
____________________
Total: 1134.00 a month
See how easily that adds up? Most rental agencies want to see a good background check/ credit report/ and want at very minimum twice that saved up in case your an irresponsible renter...
trust me sweetie... its a MUCH bigger world out here and honestly, it sucks... My advice, stay under the roof until your done with school move away to college on a scholarship and get awesome grades so you can get a sweet job and afford twice this.. Wish you the best..

I lived in the Midwest near Chicago and made it on 350 a week but that was 5 years ago. I live in CA now and would never survive on that out here. It depends on your lifestyle and how good you are with watching how you spend your money. You can probably live decently making at least 400 a week out there if you don't have many expenses like car payments, debts, etc., and are very frugal with your money like don't go out and buy things you don't need or can't afford.

How old are you? Have you finished your education?
If you are an adult, I'd say move as quickly as you can. Figure what rent costs, car and insurance, see how much is left over for food and other expenses. If you can swing it, move. $600 a week sounds like living pretty high to me!

Figure your costs. Figure: how much it costs to transport yourself and ur stuff to wherever your moving too. how much it will cost like first and last payment and security deposit to move into wherever your moving into. Figure how much it will cost to live the first month, food, gas, groceries, clothes and other accessories. Figure in furniture if you want any at first or if your just going to ruff it for awhile. Find a job before you move there if possible. Make sure the place your moving to will have employment. Finally figure how much you make every paycheck and how much it costs you to live now and calculate how much you will have saved up so you can figure when you can move. Be realistic. Round your bills up and your savings down and you will come out ahead. Good luck

Well, he is very right. But again it depends what kind of a life will you be seeking out of their houses. I personally recommend staying with parents as long as you can, but if you want a student life, you'll need even more than what your father told you, but for a normal living you'll need about $500 or a little less.
Just calculate it
Apartmant rent
Food
Car
Insurance
Cellphone
Laundry
Furniture
School payments
You should not have any pets
etc ...

Sounds about right to me. Make a list of all of your expense's and how much they will cost you. Even $600 will leave you with very little folding money at the end of the month if your careless with it. Trust me your dads not making it up I'm sure he wants you out as much as you do.
