backward compactable ps3?

Question

as the uk model isn't backward compactable, i'm thinking of importing a ps3 from the use ( before they plug that loop-hole ). just so i can play ALL my ps2 games on it. BUT if i then buy any ps3 games in the uk, will the usa model play them. Or will i have to import the games as well?. ALSO as the blu-ray upscales will it play region 2 dvd?.

Ok, most of the groundwork have been covered by previous post. Sony does say that the PS3 will be backwards compatible but as we have seen not entirely. Try clicking on the webpage I included in the sources to get additional info.

Bear with the Japanese webpage though, a little hard to read but you could at least check up on individual titles.

Everything has been covered by everyone else already, but I want to make something clear; the UK PS3 IS BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE!!! In the US and Japan versions, the compatiblity was achieved through hardware. In the UK version, the compatibility is emulated, meaning it is software driven.

Imagine, if most gamers in Europe held back from buying the PS3 until Sony reverses its daft policy of knobbling the European version, what would happen to its launch?
So get on to the game sites and and get them thinking this way! More power to the people!

you'll need your t.v to be NTSC compatible and then you'll have to import all your future games, as US models can't play PAL games, also your ps2 and 1 games will only play if they are NTSC as well and not PAL for the same reason.........why don't you just wait until they come up with a patch for the UK version? or get an xbox360

The playstation 3 will be a complete waste of money!, who needs a blue ray drive. HD-DVD will take off, and sony's ps will fall to its grave. If you are a true gamer, get an Xbox 360!

the PS3 in us is NTSC compatible it wont work on ur PAL T.V. in UK.
