a technician came to repair my aircon which was not working. He managed to get it to work and said he will be back the next day to service it. When he came the next day and started work on it, the compressor gave way and that was the end of the aircon. He is now not accepting the fault and says it is solely the problem of the compressor. What can i do now?

Sounds Like Fordman is right, but there are a couple of more possibilities here he could have
1.Overcharged you unit with refrigerant
2.Did too much of a liquid charge
3.Possibly put the wrong refrigerant into your system.

There several tests and devices that do tests to your compressor to see if it is weak of if it dying out most technicians do these test on a normal basis. My only advice I can give to you is have him come back and prove to you the the compressor was going bad or call another service company and get a second opinion if they find that it was the first technicians fault then you can take legal action after them.

Good Luck

Get a second opinion as many times problems are not diagnosed correctly. My compressor would try to start then quit. The tech replaced the compressor and the unit worked for a few weeks and quit again. I then did my own checking and found a bad quick start relay causing the compressor to do the same as the one he replaced.
I don't think any thing was wrong with the compressor that was replaced but I was lucky as it was still under warranty and did not cost me anything.
My daughter called a company out to check her A/C and was told she needed a complete unit. She called another company and they replaced a capacitor and charged only $60.00. The tech was there only a few minutes and the unit is still working fine two years later.

After talking with the manufacturer, I was told about 80% of compressors break because of improper maintenance. If you hadn't had your unit serviced within the last year or two, dirt builds up on the coils, causing the compressor to work even harder to get you heat and cooling. Depending on the age of the unit, I would get a second opinion. If it is under 12 (assuming it's a heat pump), then replace the compressor. If older, I suggest getting a new unit. Most heatpumps generally last 15 or so years, depending on the maintenance.

Sounds like the compressor was going out anyway. It may not have been his fault. I believe you'll just have to buy another compressor and let it go.
