It's been theorized that James Buchanan was gay.

If there have been any gay presidents, they've just been very good at hiding it--considering the general views of the American public, it would probably be extremely difficult for any openly gay presidential candidate to get elected, so I suspect that a significant number of gay people who want to run for president would stay closeted to better their chances, and openly gay candidates would generally not make it past the primaries.

i assume because people assume that if a person takes part in what is generally considered a perversion that they will make other major errors in the course of their administration. In Canada we had an MP who was openly gay who suddenly started stealing jewellery from jewellery stores to give to his boyfriend. It killed his career pretty quickly, as peoiple figured that if he was immoral in two areas , he would be too immoral to practice good government.

Congress panders to the *moral majority* in America because they donate lots of cash to the *religious right* who wield alot of influence by virtue of the fact the US was settled by repressed Christian puritans who saw gay love as a 'wicked' indulgence' of the *Devil*.

That's because it is highly unlikely that a president would be selected by their party if they weren't in a committed marriage in the first place.

There is currently a theory about FDR. I can't say that I know much about it, but I wouldn't be shocked if there was.
