Once the egg has been formed, it grows by simply mitotic cell divisions to maturity. In such divisions, the DNA is copied exactly (almost) - and any mutations would only affect the single cell in which they occurred, and would not affect the whole chicken.
The formation of the egg, however, is by meiotic cell division, which can introduce a whole range of genetic transformations into either the ovum or the sperm. Any mutation here will affect the DNA of the initial zygote, and therefore every single cell which grows from it.
It is therefore certain that an egg will grow into a chicken but it is not certain that two chickens will mate and produce another of their species!
The egg therefore came first - as the first chicken was produced by two parents who were not-quite chickens!

hen came first because the hen can evolve from other animals who are extinct today and the reproduce through eggs...there are many theories of evolution and you can choose what theory will you believe in..
