I know what you mean. I've been saying this for some time now that attending any professional sport will soon be for the privileged and the very rich.

I have DirecTV and will not be paying for the Extra Innings package. But not because of the deal or MLB. I get all of the local games anyway and if I have 10 games on, I try to watch all 10 at once and usually end up missing pieces of every one of them. Usually I flip back to a game only to see that score has changed and the game has moved on so I check the internet to find out what I missed... I'll need 10 TV's.
So to save myself, I will watch one game a time when it is on.
There is more the deal than you read about. This is DirecTV's greed, they are trying to buy market share as the premium sports provider. For years cable companies have operated as a semi monopoly by being the only choice for TV programming in an area and then screwing their customers when ever possible. Raising rates constantly, providing bad service and packaging their programming like a car dealer - by the time you buy the "as advertised" rate you are paying 20% more because you had to buy the Lifetime channel package if you wanted the Golf channel. Now the cable companies are trying to monopolize your phone service as well and are offering digital phone service and cell in the All-in-one packages. But you don't hear AT&T or Sprint fans complaining - of for that matter here any congressman defending the long distance carriers against the cable company attacks on their business.
But the truth is that cable companies had the same opportunity to bid on this package as DirecTV and they lossed the business. Not because it was a sealed bid and the opportunity was closed but because the cable company didn't think THEY would have as many ways to make more money off of you. After all the letters and complaints cable companies still have the opportunity to offer the package but they will not do it because they can't find a way to charge you extra for what the contract specifies must be provided as a basic service. So now they are using their power of media and lobbying to advertise and shift blame on MLB, DirecTV and anyone but themselves. But make now mistake, their desparation is based on greed and they do not want to allow a competitor to take any market share from them, just the same way they are trying to prevent you from getting TV or broadcast programming on your computer without paying them. Cable companies lost this bid and are trying to use their consortium bullying to put pressure on anyone who will listen to claim "on your behalf" that this is bad for people and everyone who is taking money out of their pocket is hurting you. They don't care about you, the second the cable company got an exclusive on MLB they wouldn't hesitate to bend you over and ask you if you wanted MLB as part of the Vaseline package or just the Sand package. So you can choose to switch providers or just wait. Like everything else in life, the world changes - you either change with it or become obsolete.
There is nothing in this deal that mandates the consumer be charged more money and this years rate is the same to me as it was last year. So either subscribe to DirecTV and buy the package or get it through MLBTV internet (which isn't bad if you take the premium package) and quit being the cable company's whiney little minion because they will sell you out the first chance they get.

They have no choice other than to be greedy and charge high prices. The owners aren't paying the players multi million dollar contracts out of their own pockets so they get to pal around with ballplayers whenever they want and get good seats. The fans are paying.

Well they are in the business of making money. One thing sport fans have to realize is that the players, managers, and team and league personnel don't take the sport as hard as the fan. It is their job. I know they make a lot of money, but imagine if people expected you to take your job with as much passion as a sport fan expect from their team...Sports are one of many forms of entertainment we have. I think we would be a much better society if people just looked at it as that and not as a passion of a fan.

I still support my team, but I will not support MLB and Bud Selig, most of the individual teams are doing nothing greedy.
