One of my friends just told me that he believes the US government was behind all of it. I was so shocked and didn't want to say anything that would make him feel bad, but now I'm really curious. What are the reasons for someone to think this?

I don't believe in it, but:
Cheney has lots of stock in Wackenhut.
Those people are making a pile off of the war. Reports on the news last year said things like: 260 guys are supposed to be working in this building in Iraq, we are paying for 260 and we only see 60 by a head count. The other 200? never existed, but the money is going somewhere.
Late 1998, 1999, before the war, papers were written in right wing journals and magazines about how the war in Iraq will be needed to be fought. Under Clinton, it wasn't. Here comes George Bush. Boom, big war.
The FBI was advised at least a month before 9 /11 that arabic guys were being trained to fly 747s in a small private school in florida. This was blown off. Look what happened.
The day the whole thing went down, the Bin laden family was rushed out of the US, to Saudi.
Bin Laden was saying for years how he wanted to mess us up. Who is his family? one of the most powerful families in Saudi. Guess who they liked to have Dinner with? The Bush Family.
The Terrorists that hit NYC were not from Iran, Iraq, they were from Saudi Arabia. So how come we attack two other countries?
Etc.
I think it was a bunch of bungles by people in power, who seriously could not imagine that a small group of people from the middle east had the cojones and skill to pull off something like 9 /11, likely the most precision, skilled terrorist attack in the history of mankind, or vying for the title.
Well, we learned better, didn't we?

Let's give this issue a rest. Why don't we bring back the conspiracy theories in the assassinations of Lincoln, King, and the Kennedy's? And why don't we add Marilyn Monroe and Anna Nicole Smith on the list. And how about Howard Hughes' death or Anwar Sadat? Let these poor victims rest in peace. We all know the truth, & it's just not evident that even Bush or Cheney had anything to do with 9-11.

To be fair enough , we should think much more about the whole matter.Nothing is in our hands but some video tapes which are said to be by Bin Laden. We all know that the internet ,the vedio ,etc aren't clear decisive evidence for crimes.Anything on the net can be fabricated. I'm not with Bin Laden.But the chaos and lies made by Bush and his gang let us think millions of timesbefore believing the story especially the US aided Saddam and Bin Laden before.

I know what you mean. I was shocked to hear a lot of my good friends believe that crap as well. ( i live in San Francisco-everyone believes that crap!) But it's not true, To orchestrate something of that magnitude you would need 100's of individuals to first of all plant the explosives, and 100 more with in the top cabinet to execute it as 911 conspiracy theorist believe. Then why has no one came forth to spill the beans? Because it's not true, that's why!!! There is no real substantial evidence to prove it!!!
