The advantage is that they preserve some of the most awe inspiring natural places on earth.
The disadvantage is that they attract so many people to them they risk spoiling these wonderful places.

National Parks are some of the best places to see wildlife and truly be immersed in nature. They also provide a protected habitat for numerous threatened and endangered species.
I don't think there are any disadvantages, other than the potential for visitors doing damage while visiting the parks. If people could just "take only pictures and leave only footprints" things would be fine.
