Are you sure that it is marriage that is pathetic? Perhaps it is the younger generations today that are pathetic because they can't step up to the plate and and form a loving union with a partner... Too many men are more interested in their PlayStation's than they are their wives.

No one is willing to take it seriously.
Pure and simple.
We are the needier country, we need things, we need our self independence, we need our Oil, we need our lifestyle not to cause us any inconveniences. we need to be self absorbed in what we want and not what our kid need!
we are a pathetic joke to the world right now and we did it to our selfs!
And you ask why marriage is a pathetic joke?
I cheated on both husbands and even misrepresented the truth to this wonderful man I'm about to marry because I only have time to think of me. It took me a wake up call from hurting the man I love to realizes that I had to grow up NOW or be a cheat for the rest of my life!
And I must say I am educated I am An M.D. of rehabilitative therapy.

Because most times, it's too easy to get out of it, if things don't go your way. Too many people are afraid of the hard work it takes to keep the marriage going, or they don't realize it IS hard work. Selfishness, immaturity, not dating long enough. It boils down to a lack of communication between the two people. I think people need to go to marriage counseling BEFORE they get married, if for no other reason, than to learn how to communicate effectively.

I know! Mostly everyone gets married because a man got a girl pregnant. I think marriage should be taken very seriously.

People really do believe these days, thanks to the attitudes and actions of celebrities, that "til death" really only means "til you annoy me or I find someone cuter."
Marriage takes work by both partners, and a lot of people are just too selfish and immature to put in the effort.

Men pursue women, giving up everything in life to "get" her, which makes us miserable. Women have been told to expect everything from us, and will NEVER be satisfied with anything, always convinced that they deserve it all and then some.
Because of all this, everything sucks, and no one can be happpy.
