So, at work the other day my ignorant boss started going off about how he Hates gay people, and he was pretty vulgar in his explanation. I am pretty sensitive about that and I thought it was a really ignorant thing to say, I didnt know how to respond. On one had id like to give my opinion on the other had I dont think its goign to make a difference. When people give opinions that i completely disagree with, is it even worth saying my side when i know it is going to fall on "deaf" ears?

Hmm, well, first and foremost, that is sexual discrimination and harrassment on his part, and if you wanted to go above him and get his arss fired you really have all the grounds in the world.

As far as you giving him your opinion on the matter, I wouldnt even go there. He is ignorant and you or no one else is going to change that. It is completely inappropriate for a man in his position to say that to an employee. We do have rights as gay people to not be harrassed in the workplace, and this type of conversation is harrassment. Hope you take it to the next level. Good luck.

That's very inappropriate in the workplace. Your boss should be more professional. It depends on your relationship with your boss. If you feel comfortable with saying something to him then do it. But if you think he may get angry with you I probably would bite my tongue. He may be vindictive and find some reason to write you up or even fire you. He's probably just a self-loathing closet queen who's in bad need of some d**k. Some people are so boneheaded and set in their ways that they don't listen to differing ways of thinking so there's really no point in debating them.

I believe yes it is worth saying, the more that is said the less homosexuality will go back in the closet. You guys have come so far and still have a way to go...... to be quiet only creates inner turmoil. You probably wont get the reaction or comments that you want from the person your talking to but hopefully their will be many others listening who will take notice. Good Luck

Yes, I think you should say something. Your boss can think what he likes, but going off about hating Gay's is something else. Pull him up and have him apologise, if he refuses then I would take it further.
Remember, at work you should be free of discrimination.

It will fall on deaf ears, but you could always let him know that his words offend people, and not just gay people.

This is where you pick up the phone and make an anonomous tip of unwanted sexual harrasement/remarks, and a flagrant display of discrimination /hate in the work place

well a friend of mine has a relationship with her boss, the thing is that the boss was exactly like that too.she was ignorent but we had to set it straight to her and now not only is she gay friendly-shes gay herself.so talk to your boss cause maybe she/he doesnt know WHY she/he hates gay people!otherwise leave him/her to sort out her/his own homophobic problems.

if he knows you are gay and he did this
it's called harassment.

if you live in the states , file a claim with the eeoc.
because you have rights , they are only there if you
excercise them.

good luck!
