I can't use birth control medications. My body is just too sensitive to the hormones. I end up in a sort of permanent state of PMS, get my period randomly, at most (usually just random spotting) and almost never on the placebos, and get worse cramps (with or without menstruation!). I spent 2.5 years on three different pills trying to find a combination and dosage of hormones that worked to no avail. Now I find the combination of condoms and spermicidal suppositories much more convenient.

That said....

Often you need to give your body 3 months to adjust to the hormones in birth control medications. It can be all crazy those first 3 months then level out.

The pill (ring/patch/implants/whatever) mimics the hormones your body would produce during the first 3 months of pregnancy. It tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant so it does not release any eggs. While your body adjusts to this it can also go through the normal sort of issues a person goes through in the first trimester. Chances are you will adjust to it.

Also, a higher or lower dosage may help. Talk to your OB-GYN. She will be able to explain what's going on and help you to find a dosage that is more suited to your body.
