I think it is beautiful. Eloise is a strong name, one that will carry her though her adulthood without sounding silly. Classic names are regaining popularity. I have to say your friend did well on this one. :-)
Plus, there are the Eloise books, which may be where your friend came up with it- if she is not aware of them, tell her to look them up, they are adorable books!

Interesting...it reminds me of that book about a spoiled girl living in the Plaza Hotel, but it isn't that bad. The child could be called Ellie for short and that's cute. It's not a bad name, just a little different, but after all it is up to your friend.

Eloise is a lovely, classic French name.
Only you have to pronounce it "Eh-low-weeze", not "El-oy-zuh."
I think it's very pretty, and unusual enough in America to make it unique.
For some reason, I'm thinking of "Eloise Isabella"...
