As a general rule, you can't go from steel to nylon strings (or visa versa) on a guitar without some major surgery.

A steel string guitar doesn't have the correct bridge, nut, or tuners to accomodate nylon strings, while a nylon string guitar outfitted with steel strings will often destroy the neck, top, nut, bridge, and tuners.

To answer your specific question... yes, it will change the tone radically.

It depends on the type of guitar you have. But the nylon strings will definitley alter the way the guitar sounds. It is more of a personal preference, but it will also feel different too. The nylon strings are lighter and easier to pluck. If you have smaller weaker fingers or are a newer player the nylon strings will be easier to manipulate (play chords with). Happy playing!!

Musical type speaks volumes whilst it involves this situation. people who choose extreme quantity would be unhappy with unamplified nylon string guitars. From my attitude, the user-friendly distinction between steel and nylon is this: steel strings ring and nylon strings resonate. the quantity produced by employing steel is many times plenty better than nylon yet, to my way of thinking, the sound resonance produced by employing the timber of your guitar is basically masked by employing steel strings. in case you have a decently made guitar (frequently, around one thousand money and up), the sound interaction between the timber and the strings in a nylon guitar is magical around the completed frequency variety. With a steel string guitar, the sound produced by employing the vibrating string overpowers the timber resonance in any respect yet low frequencies. in my view, i will take a nylon string guitar any day for the sensitivity won from the interaction between timber and vibrating string.

Yeah, but nylon strings are *generally* reserved for classical and flamenco styles. If you like the sound . . . by all means, try it. Just be sure to get a set with stops on the ends.
