Out of personal experience, I`d say a lot, but be very careful about concluding WHAT it says. An immaculate, tidy house could mean the person is very organised, or maybe they have nothing else to do but clean. Or they have a good cleaning lady. Having the dining room chair-pillows covered in plastic might mean this person is paranoid about dirt, or they have small children who will make a mess, and therefore are actually showing a practical side of themselves. A messy room often has its own order within the mess, they might not have time to clean, or they have more important things to do, or they are in a state of depression or have ADS and really can`t clean it up, no matter how hard they try. So YES, it says a lot. But don`t make quick judgements.

The contents and appearence of one's room or something shows his attitude, mental strength.Even it reflects his mental stress or depression etc. Since he is deciding what has to be in his room, you can easily read what in his mind.

The appearance will motivate a person to clutter or clean. they tend to over extend that tendency by going into another persons home , when they see clean there, they get the message in their mind of how cluttered their home or room may be, and begin to clean and/or, organize their own lived in environment. though some messages take longer to reach , "the reason for work mode."

My ex-boss used to assert ' a cluttered table equals a cluttered options'. So what does an empty table equivalent? see you later because that's no longer dirty, muddle would not problem me in any respect. there's a distinction between dirty and junky.

Not as much as I would say it reflects on the amount of time they have to keep it clean and the economic lifestyle they can afford.

I think it probably says a good deal about their personality. I don't think it reveals anything about their overall mental health.
