Neons run $1-2 dollars. Some shops sell tiny ones (babies) for $1 and more mature ones for $2. They are tropical freshwater fish. You can't mix them with gold fish.
The biggest problem with neons is they are popular. That means the suppliers have made them so inbred to meet demands. This leads to genetic "trash" for neons and other popular fish like guppies, because you can only mate with your sister so many generations before genetics catches up with you. They are not as hardy as they were 25 years ago and get sick easily.

Actually neon's are a tropical. You can mix them with just about any tropical fish. But some of them "WILL" be eaten it's just a fact of life. Fish eat Fish. Goldfish included. I've seen them do it. And I have mixed Neon's with Goldfish and they did fine together.

Tetras, members of the Characin family, are a warm freshwater fish. It needs water temp to be 69 to 79 F.

Goldfish are a cold water freshwater fish and need temps to be 50 to 68 F.

They are not to be kept together just for that reason. Either the goldfish would be too hot and die or the neon's would be too cold and die.

Neons are one of the cheapest tetra you can buy. I got mine 2 for 5$ not on sale. They are tropical and will eat flake food. I don't know about mixing them with goldfish though. Neons along with all other tetra are really aggressive. Depending on what the other fish are and their size, it is normal for neons to write their own murder mystery. I've had success though with neons being with other tetra, angelfish, catfish, and even a betta. Good Luck!

Neons will be around $1.50, maybe less. Some stores sell them in groups of three.
They are freshwater and tropical. "Tropical" refers to temperature - usually around 76-82o, as opposed to coldwater (<76) which is what goldfish are. They really shouldn't be mixed.

Neons are not expensive but they are tropical and require a higher water temperature than goldfish. I wouldn't mix them.
