In high school if they offer things like Sports med (practical training for not only your body but assessing injuries will help), your school may have basic medical field clinicals that could help as well. Those things will help you because many fireman double as EMT (Emergency Medical Tech.) in the field so basic CPR and first aid is good to start with that training early. As always any phisical eduaction in high school might help you with the physical side of being a fireman.

There is some degree of mechanical and engineering need for working the rigs and equipment around the fire house and on the truck.

I'm sure if you looked there has got to be basic information out there on the internet. But visit one of your local fire houses and ask them where to start early and what they can recommend you do so that you can do this to the best of your ability. Firemen need to be great leaders, team players and have not only stamina and strength, but both of those as inner qualities.

Good Luck - We need more people in this world who want to do the hardest jobs to do each day. What you aspire to be is someone who wants to save lives and help others. It's very commendable.

My friend got out of the army to go be a fireman and he didn't need any classes, they were going to give him all the training he needed. But he was in contact with the fire dept he want to be at way in advance. I remember he had to send letters of recommendation. hope that helps.

After you receive your high school diploma, you should be able to apply for a position as a fireman. :) But if you're wanting to start a class on fire safety or get certified, check with your local technical college for information on fire safety courses. Good luck! Go save some lives ;)

Go to the school counselor. Tell him/her that this is your ambition. They are trained to guide you in the right direction.
This is what they get paid for!
