As I usually go to movies by myself...I see women who do the same.... From the little conversations we have shared...they are there for exactly the same reason...to see the movie without having to worry about the date feeling they are being ignored...and in some cases...to avoid being felt up, period.
We are movie fans...fans of stories...don't like huge crowds for the most part...and thus find our ways to movie cinemas on Monday mornings...usually the first showing of that film... after the debut of a film on the preceeding Friday.
We are not interested in asking for or being asked for multiple trips to the concession stand...we don't want to be asked in the middle of the movie..."What does she mean by that?"...we came to see the movie. Period.
Those I know who say they go...go. And I know this for I find out from them...when they are in the cinema.

Hmm regarding that, my friends and I went to a cinema, supposedly intending to watch "The Covenant" together. However, that movie was on sneak preview so almost all the seats were snapped up (leaving only single or double seats available) but we were desperate to watch the movie so we spilt and I and my other friend (except for the other two; they sat beside each other) sat and watched the movie alone throughout and we were like at the far ends of the theatre. Hopefully, this will clear your doubts! :)

Now that you've mentioned it, neither have I. No, I have never seen any woman go to the movies by herself. Not ever. They usually come in pairs, or with their boyfriends, or family. If such a thing did happen, then I must have missed it. I do see some men go to the movies by themselves. I am one of them. LOL.

Yes, in the afternons only. When you invite a friend to go with you, often they end up talking you into seeing a movie THEY WANT TO SEE
and not the one you do. So it's better to just pick your movie "go-it-alone" and enjoy !!

Why would you care what other people think about you. It's not like you'll ever see them again. I am sure there not sitting at the movies going omg, she's by herself, there watching and focusing on the movie there watching.

I always Go to the movies by myself...I used to go with friends before. But now i feel more comfortable to go on my own, because i want to concentrate on the movie as much as i can.If i go with somebody else, there will always be something that will make me speak to my friend, something from the movie that is. So when i go alone,i dont get tempted and i found out i enjoy doing it. It is regular practice now.
