30 people have to shake hands so one has to do it with 29 others and so it must be 29 hands shaken by 30 people so
30 multiply by 29 = 870 hands to be shaken

My guess goes like this
30 people
the 1st person, person #30 shakes hands with the other 29+ then steps out leaving 29 people and then person #29 steps oup and shakes hands with the other 28+ people then steps out leaving 28 people (2 stepped out) then person #28 steps up and shakes hands with the other 27+ people and then my bogged up mind mentally repeated the hopeful formula, i.e., 29+28+27+26+25+24 on down to +2 because the last person has shook hands with everyone by then.........OR NOT!!! ANY BODY GOT A CALCULATOR?//THX IT WAS FUN TRYING....

i have no idea if this is correect but
is it like 30 x 29 / 2? =435
reason:
30 people are at the meeting, they all must shake hands with one another so 30 x 29 (29 as you dont shake hands with yourself)
dividing it by 2 as everyone is thought to have two hands but everyone only needs to shake 1 hand of everybody so you then divide it by 2

Depends on how many of em' are shaking their hands. If all 30 of them shakes their hand. 30 hand shakes were there.

the first guy has to shake 29 hands, the next guy has 28, and so on, down to 1. if you pair them all up, except the first guy with 29 handshakes, hightest and lowest, you can make it a little simpler. i'll explain

28+1
27+2
26+3
and so on, all add up to 29, until you get to
15+14
so, you have 14 pairs of 29, plus the original, so you have 15x29 handshakes. total of 435 handshakes
