The usual causes for random shutdowns are:
1)Overheating triggers auto-shutdown to protect the CPU;
2)Memory module going bad;
3)Power supply going bad.

I used to think of it become the instantaneous modem I had. using fact, there may well be cases whilst i would not have the skill to do any element on line, and the shortcut on my pc might say I certainly have an amazing Connection. certainly, what it meant become, I certainly have an amazing connection to my instantaneous modem and the bars, in the instantaneous community Connection field, may well be all complete and green! The instantaneous video show software might say "you're hook up with the modem, yet no longer linked with internet" or something like that. this is got here approximately to me such a good number of cases, i do no longer think of you are able to keep away from it. it continuously comes returned. there's a great probability, it is not your desktops. go determine!

Could be a virus.. or a software problem.. or even a hardware problem.
Get it checked out by GeekSquad or any Computer geek
Heres my guide for Home Security:
(Please note scans may take long hours... So take a nap while scanning or do other things and turn off anything BESIDES the Computer to save energy. examples: Monitor, Speakers, anything that require energy)
First, do another scan with your virus protector and/or Internet Security
Then do other online scans
For Online Scans go to:
Windows: http://safety.live.com
Norton/Symantec: http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=JTHVRSJRFSKLUKUMXCC
Mcafee: http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp
If you need spyware protection and removal, use these:
Ad-Aware SE Personal: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
SuperAntiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com
Spybot: http://www.safer-networking.org/
AVG Free Anti-Spyware: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5
Windows Defender: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
For Free Virus Protector, use:
AVG Free Anti-Virus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
Avast (your choice): http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html
Use any of these for safety scan, virus and spyware scan and removal. If all finds nothing, your computer is fine

Could be a virus, but it may also be overheating , the CMOS battery running down or the start of a hard drive failure. First of all run an antivirus / spyware scan, then check the rest

It sounds like your main processor fan has stopped working. when a processor gets to hot it will shut down. that would also make it sluggish. Open the case and look for a fan in the middle of the motherboard.

go to your event log and find out what is going on with the computer when it shuts off. Also try booting in safe mode and see if this still happens.
