in and interview with blender mag he said "I had no problem with people knowing I was bisexual. But I had no inclination to hold any banners or be a representative of any group of people. I knew what I wanted to be, which was a songwriter and a performer, and I felt that bisexuality became my headline over here for so long. America is a very puritanical place, and I think it stood in the way of so much I wanted to do."so is he,was, what is it?

He first came out with it in 1972, and he seems to have regretted it since, at the time it was one of the greatest publicity stunts ever in the music business, as it did nothing more than create his image to be even more un-earthly and mysterious, and of course sell his music.
Over the years he has been seen and associated with more women than any heterosexual could ever dream of, he has been asked the question quite a few times in various TV interviews with regards to his sexuality, and seems to be really embarrassed and usually threatens to walk out, strange that David Bowie or any real bi-sexual for that matter would get that annoyed over a simple question like that.
I think that in the early days of the seventies he was out to shock and be as outrageous as possible, and I think he did definitely mess around with the same sex, look at the world he was in, anything went in those days and probably did, but now I think he cringes a little when he thinks about what he said or did under the influence of stardom and drugs.
Ann Dee, you are completey off the mark there about UK being more uptight than US, you censor just about every tiny indiscretion in the US.
If you ever get to visit the UK, you are most certainly in for one big shock.

Yes, he was bi. Back in the mid-70's it was highly rumored that he and Mick Jagger had an affair. I don't think it's a big deal. I don't even know why they tend to concentrate on what happens in someone's bed. America isn't puritanical, it's too judgmental.

Bowie was born in England which is a far more uptight place than the U.S and Bowie DID have a problem with people knowing he was bisexual. He had no choice but to admit it when his ex-wife, Angie, outed him when she found him in bed with Mick Jagger.
