In my culture, my fiancee or the one I marry has to pay my parents a dowry of up to 8,000 dollars just to marry me, and the minimum of 5,800. I dont know whether I should consider myself fortunate or not, but I just wanted to know how many guys would do this for their girls.

Oh and by the way, my fiancee is actually a different race and yes, he's complaining but he is also agreeing to pay.

A dowry is not our custom in the U.S. But, if I were living in your culture, for my wife I would try to save 16,000 dollars. And I would tell her father that she is twice as beautiful as the 8,000 dollar daughters. And that she will be twice the wife as the 8,000 dollar wives. And that I love her twice as much as any man that would give 8,000 dollars for her.

If thats your culture then yes he could/should pay the dowry... BUT then it should be wholeheartedly done so ..just like what the others here answered..if he loves you sooo much he would even pay double;)... BUT if its just to make your parents happy then i don't think he should do it. AND if he's having second thoughts bout the dowry don't take it against him too the way that he shouldn't take the "dowry- thing" against you too. cultures defines a nation/country but doesnt necessarily defines you.

I would never do it, especially as you'll need that money to get established in your new life together.
Talk about a deterent to getting married. Although it might work well, to make sure everyone is taking marriage seriously. Hmmmm, come to think of it, that's not a bad idea, but I think it might work better for each to pay $4000.

Depends on the return policy. For that kind of money better throw in an extended warranty and a minimum 1 yr return policy or at least exchange her for a sister that was a close match.
