I've been to Brazil, it is even worse than this. Kids hang onto the sides of buses and backs of trucks while the traffic is chaotic. People wanting to get around the jams actually ride down the sidewalks or go the wrong direction on the other side of the road. And when you think that is the worst, at nights the teenagers do this without any lights except occasionally flashing them in the intersections. My wife who is Brazilian told me about the driving before we went to Brazil and I said, Hey, if you can drive in NY City and Philadelphia, you can drive anywhere. Needless to say, my wife refused to let me drive in Brazil, she said when you hit somebody, you duke it out on the streets, get back in you car and count your loss. If I hadn't seen this with my eyes, I would not have believed it. My father-in-law, brother-in-law, and wife drove me around everywhere and I was glad I didn't have to drive. Another thing they do is Train surfing which is surfing on the roof of the train and ducking each time it goes under bridges, overpasses, and low wires. These kids actually quit school hoping to become the best Train Surfer although the only reward is the hope of living to do it another day. That's Chaos!!!

Yes, I have been to India, and this is common. The worst place I've been is Kabul, Afghanistan. It is indescribable. A city of about 5-6 million that is sized for 2 million, and not a single working stoplight. There are only a few stop signs, and they aren't abided by. There is absolutely no civility or enforcement of what little law there is. There are no lanes and you share the road with motorbikes, cars, donkey carts, horsecarts, people carts, etc. and nobody gives or gets the right of way.

Yes I see this on a regular basis as I live in China! Traffic here is similarly unbelievable everyday, especially in large cities that still allow motor scooters! Where I currently live, there are scooters dodging in an out carelessly everywhere. I am an American on a work assignment here and I actually drive my own car in this daily. So far no real problems, but what a thrill!
