I'm a 20 year old business major who recently started looking for jobs on some career websites! I found there are lots of direct marketing jobs that offer things like paid training, and opportunities for advancement, but i need to know if they are legitimate businesses, I have checked out the website, but anyone can make a good website these days, no its not an MLM as far as I can see right now, and they are not asking for any money from me! but I want to know if it is truly a money making opportunity and a way to get a foot in the door of sales and marketing, so let me know your experiences!
so you know some of the companies I've interviewed with are new direction promotions, scanno advertising, o.c. marketing and tld and associates, let me know especially if you have worked with any of these they are located in cali, they all seem to do the same type of thing

Direct marketing jobs are a dime a dozen and for the most part not worth that. If you were good at sales you would already be doing it. Avoid waisting your time on marketing jobs. Concentrate on jobs that use your business skills like accounting. You may also want to avoid companies that are in retail sales but you may end up there. They can eventually develop into good careers in management. Consider a job with companies that supply comedies to a wholesale market or manufacture a product. Some service companies can offer good career opportunities but not food sales in general or direct marketing to retail customers.

I would say if you checked out the business with the better business bureau and felt that it was legitimate then how well you do is completely up to you. If you enjoy the job and give 110% then I am sure you can go far with it. But it is important that you enjoy what you're doing, if you want to stay positive about it.

The best way to check out a potential employer is to do research. You should ask the employers if you can job shadow. Ask them some questions like
"How long have they been in business?"
"What are their yearly profits?"
"What are the companies business goals and plans for the next five years?"

Find the most sucessful executive their and ask them questions about how they became successful. See how long execs have been working for the company. This can give you a great idea on retention of employees.

Good luck to you!

Look at where the company is based and call the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints against them. Otherwise, take the chances as long as you do not have to pay for anything.
