Principle of superposition in the most general sense states that the combined effect caused by multiple factors equal the sum of the individual effects each caused by one of the factors acting independently.

I think in quantum mechanics its when you have a particle in two different states at same time. Much like a person standing up and sitting down at same time. But only applies to subatomic world.
