The song starts with a voice-over over a keyboard, then verse 1 goes "Desolation angel, your pretty dress in tatters/still looking for heaven, or does it even matter?" The bridge goes "Sweet beauty doesn't drag you down/All the (unremembered word) in this great big town/(next part not remembered)/Are you ever gonna fly?/ When you gonna start this dance on fire? Desolation angel..." I believe it came out around late '89-early '90 but I am not sure. The singer sounds a little like Bruce Springsteen (but I know it isn't him).

My best guess is that this is David Swanson performing the song "Desolation Angel". This is on the album Reclamation. This was released in 1990, and there was one reference to him sounding like Springsteen. It seems very hard to find a copy, but someone on ebay was selling it a couple weeks ago.
