GRades are rather unimportant so dont worry too much about honors or other academic achievements....
I have known several people that were admitted into Art school at the graduate level with poor grades.
Art school is very different from any other b/c as long as you can show talent very little else matters...
Good Luck.

Since RISD is one of the top top art schools, I wouldnt' be surprised if they did care about grades at least to some extent. They'd want to make sure you're the type who can stick it out.

Certainly what will matter greatly is your portfolio so I think it's less important whether that is a result of a school course or an other program, but they'll want to see what you can create. And chances are that you can create a better portfolio if you get some training somewhere. (Of course, this is not necessarily the case if you're super-duper talented, but when looking for courses, you may want to ask the instructors if they have any experiences sending students to a place like RISD.)

Good luck!
